Telos zkEVM with Hardware Acceleration is Now Live on Ethereum Sepolia Testnet
We are thrilled to announce the successful deployment of our zkEVM, powered by cutting-edge FPGA-based hardware acceleration, on the Ethereum Sepolia testnet. This represents a significant milestone in the advancement of zero-knowledge technology, pushing the boundaries of performance and efficiency.
Key Innovations in Our zkEVM
Our zkEVM leverages hardware acceleration developed in collaboration with Ponos to optimize critical functions, such as:
- Merkle Tree Computation and Poseidon Hash: These operations are now significantly faster thanks to FPGA acceleration.
- Fast Fourier Transform (FFT): Enhanced performance enables quicker proving processes.
In particular, the batch proof generation, which involves proving transaction batches, has been accelerated. This has resulted in a 40% increase in proving speed and cost reduction in generating batch proofs.
There is still room for further improvement, especially in the final fflonk proof that takes a significant part of the overall proving cost. However, with the integration of our Polygon zkEVM Hermes Proof Wrapper and SNARKtor, the fflonk proof generated by the zkEVM will become unnecessary. By directly aggregating the wrapped batch proofs via SNARKtor, additional computational resources will be freed, significantly improving proving efficiency. This will also enable the aggregation of zkEVM proofs with others in the ecosystem, reducing drastically on-chain verification costs for each zkEVM instance.
Deployment and Accessibility
The zkEVM has been deployed on the Ethereum Sepolia testnet, utilizing tTLOS as its gas token.
To ensure accessibility for all users, we've launched a faucet that provides tTLOS tokens, enabling seamless interaction with the zkEVM. Now, developers and users alike can experience the advantages in terms of performances and cost savings of hardware-accelerated zero-knowledge proofs firsthand.

This deployment adds to the growing momentum in the ZK ecosystem, alongside with the other Telos innovations like the Polygon zkEVM Hermez Proof Wrapper, SNARKtor, Plonky2 GoldiBear and the RiscZero's Proof Wrapper (Risclonky2).
