TCD Chronicle: January 2024
What's New on Telos
A Word From the TCD’s Head of ZK Technologies — Alberto Garoffolo
During December and January, we finalized the Protocol for Scaling Zero Knowledge Proofs in Blockchains Whitepaper. The whitepaper describes the key aspects of the protocol including the general scheme, the incentives, the functional and security requirements and other important features of the protocol. The pre-print version is ready and will be announced soon along with other supporting material helping the understanding of the protocol at a high level.
In January we also started expanding the ZK Team hiring Daniele, a cryptographer with an amazing background in Zero Knowledge and with deep expertise on several proving systems. Daniele has a Ph.D in Mathematics and he is already proving a key contribution in our research efforts on ZK technologies.
In the last few weeks, we also began working on the architecture and on the actual implementation of some base components needed to process the ZK base proofs by the Scaling Proof Protocol. This required a preliminary analysis on the most computationally efficient ways to wrap and verify in circuit one of the ZKVM base proofs we are envisioning to use.
In February we will further concentrate our efforts on the actual implementation of the components needed to process the ZKVM base proofs. In parallel to that, we will also support the marketing activities providing material to facilitate the ongoing communication and the explanation of the protocol.
A Word From the TCD’s Head of Engineering — Jesse Schulman
The TCD has really started heating up, with EVM 1.5 almost fully hardened and ready for release, work has begun in full force on our major 2024 initiatives.
Several major improvements are released or will soon be released for Teloscan, Telos Wallet and the Telos Bridge! Thanks to the hard work of the UI team, we continue to see all our frontends receiving upgrades to add features that improve our user experience.
The 2.0 EVM RPC is shaping up to be an amazing improvement for TelosEVM that will bring significant performance improvements, and ease of operations for node operators as well as enabling several very exciting integrations!
The ZK team has been heads down the past few months and we are very excited to see the results of their hard work beginning to show. The coming weeks/months should have more and more information becoming public around the ZK technologies that Telos will be building, I expect a lot of buzz as that hits full stride.
Last but not least, the zkEVM work for K2-18 has also fully kicked off and is making great progress. Very excited to see this Telos L2 chain coming together, we expect it to be the first of many! Expect even more excitement as we get closer to a demonstrable testnet deployment for everyone to try.
TCD Roadmap 2024—
The 2024 strategic roadmap was revealed in our second town hall and significant progress is already being made towards key milestones. This year is set to feature substantial developments across four pivotal areas: Scalable Proof Protocol, K2-18 (the zkEVM gaming chain), Telos EVM + Telos Zero, and BAAS. Completion of the zkEVM Whitepaper marks a preparatory step towards its upcoming public release.
