Inside the Telos Privacy Layer: Roadmap, Infrastructure, and Scaling Path

When we first introduced the Telos Privacy Layer, we emphasized a simple truth: privacy is the default in everyday life. Salaries, rent payments, or votes are not public records — and blockchains will not achieve mainstream adoption until they reflect that reality.
Telos is now translating this vision into action. We are developing the first hyper-scale privacy stack for EVM, optimized across the entire Telos chain. By combining zero-knowledge cryptography, dedicated infrastructure, and Telos’ high-performance architecture, the network will deliver a privacy system designed for widespread, real-world use.
A Comprehensive Privacy Architecture
The Telos Privacy Layer is being built as an integrated system where every layer of the stack contributes to both performance and security.
UX Layer: Privacy embedded directly into Telos-first wallets with native RPC and explorer integration, making shielded transfers as simple as a public transaction.
Infrastructure: Self-hosted Subsquid indexing and broadcaster services, deployed in Kubernetes with monitoring and secure routing, ensure reliability and transparency.
Consensus & EVM: Sub-second transaction execution and MEV resistance provide an efficient base for private computation and verification.
Cryptographic Core: zkSNARK circuits, adapted from established frameworks, serve as the foundation for shielded transactions.
Scaling Engine: SNARKtor, Telos’ recursive proof aggregator, enables the system to eventually expand from thousands to millions of private transactions per second.
This architecture ensures that privacy on Telos is not only secure, but also performant and accessible.
Roadmap to Mainnet
The implementation of the Telos Privacy Layer is structured in phases:
Phase 0 — Research & Design (Completed, ~2 Months)
Conducted protocol analysis of existing zkSNARK implementations to validate suitability for Telos’ performance profile.
Defined system architecture for contracts, broadcaster services, indexing, and wallet integration.
Established security model, including ceremony design and requirements for future audits.
Finalized infrastructure design for development and production (Kubernetes, monitoring, relayer network).
Assemble Development Team
Phase 1 — Foundations (Weeks 1–4 , In Progress)
Adapt zkSNARK contracts for Telos EVM.
Conduct zkSNARK public ceremony to generate Telos-specific verification keys.
Deploy development infrastructure for indexing and broadcaster services.
Phase 2 — Infrastructure & Wallet (Weeks 3–7)
Production deployment of Subsquid indexer and broadcaster stack.
Development of Telos-first wallet integration with privacy enabled by default.
Phase 3 — Mainnet Integration (Weeks 6–14)
End-to-end testing across contracts, infrastructure, and wallet.
Release of Telos-first privacy wallet, desktop version
Mainnet deployment of the privacy layer.
Testing and QA
Phase 4 — Scaling & Expansion (Post-MVP)
Mobile wallet rollout for iOS and Android.
Performance Optimisation
Compliance features including view keys and enterprise-ready pools.
SDKs and APIs to enable shielded DeFi, payroll, and governance applications.
Integrated dApps and mini-apps inside upcoming wallet, giving users direct access to DeFi, payments, governance, and RWA tools in a private-by-default environment.
SNARKtor integration for recursive proof aggregation and hyper-scale throughput.
Target: MVP deployment by year-end, with scaling upgrades and enterprise features following in 2026.
Note: This roadmap is subject to change and will be adjusted if opportunities arise that accelerate adoption or provide strategic advantages to the Telos network.

Telos is a decentralized blockchain ecosystem that includes Telos EVM, which is tested as the fastest Ethereum Virtual Machine globally, and its high-speed consensus layer, Telos Zero. With its continued focus on helping push forward the global adoption of Zero Knowledge technology, Telos is also currently developing a hardware-accelerated Ethereum Layer 2 network powered by SNARKtor, with the goal of enhancing privacy and scalability for global use cases at scale. Telos is overseen by The Telos Foundation, an ownerless foundation dedicated to advancing the Telos blockchain network and its community.
